1.5.1. Conceptualising the approaches to society and societal trends
a. We develop new interdisciplinary and problem-centred research areas that combine political science and governance, law, sociology, demography, strategic planning and future studies, as well as the competence of social work.
b. We integrate the approaches of social sciences, law and political sciences in analysing societal norms, social justice and equal opportunities.
c. We develop a complex monitoring methodology of societal processes for regular evaluation of the development of the Estonian society in the context of European and global trends.
d. We advance the methodology of social sciences, law and political sciences, including the development of web-based data collection tools and software for analysis, services based on national data sets and capabilities for register based analysis.
e. We develop and apply the Estonian research terminology of social sciences, law and political sciences.
1.5.2. Supporting the renewal of institutions, governance and legal norms
a. We integrate the approaches of public involvement, active citizenship, network governance and e-government to provide knowledge for the building of a coherent and democratic society, and to increase the capacity of societal critical thinking.
b. We analyse the development and future perspectives of international law with respect to trans-border issues, including lex mercatoria; and develop methodology that gives sense to the issues regarding coherency of the European Union law with the Estonian legal system, in order to work out appropriate solutions for such a small state.
c. We develop research methodologies and knowledge transfer practices that are based on the principles of knowledge-based policy to support open governance at local and national level.
