“Fate brought me to Estonia,” believes JaMEs sUNNY QUaICOE, whose future goal is to share with the teachers of ghana, the modern methods of teaching information and communication technology that he has acquired during his time at Tallinn University.
“I became aware of Estonia quite accidentally,” remembers the doctoral student. “I used to be engaged in teacher development and training in western Ghana. At first, I applied to Canadian and Australian universities. I also saw the connection between Estonia and Skype but at that time I had very little knowledge of Estonia – to be honest
I had never even heard of Estonia! I had always related Skype to superpowers.”
When reading about Estonia, james found out that it was a small, modern and compact country. “As a professional teacher I was mainly interested in the opportunities of integrating modern information and communication technologies into teaching and school work. When I saw how much modern tech- nological solutions are used in Estonian schools,
„A teacher in the 21st century is basically an agent of technological change - always one step ahead of students.”
GHANA PHDStUDENt:
I then realised that Ghana will undergo a similar development in the coming ten years. Apply-
ing for visas and arriving in Estonia went so fast that sometimes I still don’t quite believe that I am already here!”
“At Tallinn University I always feel like I can make my best effort”, adds james. “In my opinion Tallinn University is very international and the teachers are competent and intelligent. On the other hand, the university is characterised by flexibility – you can study just the subjects you deem necessary.”
