Tallinn University, like other public universities in Estonia, uses the 3+2 system of the Bologna process (i.e. three years of Bachelor studies
+ two years of Master studies + four years of Doctoral studies). The university’s programmes are unique in Estonia for the high degree of academic freedom they allow. Up to one fourth of the subjects at every level are open electives
and a significant number of specialist subjects are also included as electives. Thus, the students are able to design their own study plan quite independently, and to assist them in this, advice is also available from study coordinators and counsellors.
