To register as a patron, an Estonian ID-card or other identification document together with a standard document photo is needed. The library card is free of charge for employees and students of Tallinn University, but if lost, the card will be re-issued for 3.20 €.
The Academic Library of Tallinn University is a research, archival and study library, which com- bines the research library and its branches. The library’s oldest publication dates back to the 15th century. Historical collections originate from the library of the Estonian Literary Society active in the 19th century, its oldest part being the St. Olaf ’s Church’s library, founded in the 16th century.
The research library assembles literature in all fields of research, except for the narrowly defined fields of construction and agriculture. The library

holds around 2.6 million books and periodicals. The collections of the library are catalogued in the e-catalogue ESTER, containing information about availability of items. In addition there are over 45 electronic research databases.
The library’s reserves have been divided into four sections:
(a) primary collection in the library’s depository; (b) open collection on the shelves of the reading rooms comprising study and research literature as well as specialised journals;
(c) Baltic and rare literature collection;
(d) collection of expatriate Estonian literature.
All reading rooms are equipped with wireless Inter- net connection (WiFi) and workstations equipped with a computer, which enables access to licensed databases.

There is also a study room which is opened every day 7.00-23.00 and outside the opening hours of the Study Centre can be accessed in room A-206 with the Estonian ID card as your library card.
