PEETEr sIPElgas, head of the Viimsi school knowledge centre, Collegium Eruditionis,
and a teacher, was recognised as the most distinguished alumnus of TU in 2014 and in the prior year was awarded the Teacher of the Year title in Harju County. He graduated from the study programme of secondary school physics teaching, from basic school as a teacher of natural sciences and has now been teaching for 15 years. Peeter´s calling is to promote science hobby education for children.
“In comparison to my own school days, the university has changed a lot – in regard to both form and content. I am sincerely glad that Tallinn University is still the leading flagship of pedagogical sciences in Estonia and the number of international students and lecturers has significantly grown.
It is very nice when a university notices and recognises its alumni and as a graduate of Tallinn Pedagogical University, the predecessor of TU, I have tried to further education in my activities and I am committed to developing science hobby education.
In 2011, Viimsi School became a partner with Tallinn University and together we have accomplished several educational projects by organising student research days, as well as continuing education for teachers.
I think that creation of the knowledge centre´s Collegium Eruditionis for supporting the development of talented children is the most important accomplishment of my career. We have been able to put a sparkle into the eyes of hundreds of children. Student research diversifies curricular work
and helps to notice, encourage and create opportunities for students to develop their talents.”
