Abstract
Through the increasing influence of educational technologies, education and training systems all over the world are adopting new models of teaching and learning. Open and distance learning has an important role in this new learning environment. Several international organisations has a great impact in facilitating the development of open and distance learning and in fostering international collaboration in Europe and throughout the world.
The article gives an overview of the activities of different international organisations in the field of open and distance learning, such as the European Association of Distance Teaching Universities (EADTU), the European Open University Network (EOUN), the European Distance Education Network (EDEN), EuroPACE 2000, the International Council for Distance Education (ICDE) and about the international co-operation in distance education.
