What is RPL?

RPL is a process, which in simplified terms means that it is possible to take into account knowledge and experience acquired anywhere when fulfilling the admission requirements, or completing a study programme in order to avoid learning what has already been learnt. RPL benefits those who wish to continue with their unfinished studies or change their speciality, as well as those who wish to apply for the accreditation of knowledge and skills gained from additional training, work and other experiences. In addition, it is possible to use RPL in awarding professional qualifications and planning a career in general. RPL is an opportunity!

RPL Fees

Note! For students enrolled before 2024, the new RPL fees will apply from 01.07.2025. For students enrolled in 2024, these fees will come into effect in 2024.

When fulfilling the curriculum:
When submitting a RPL application, a fee of 12 euros per recognized ECTS credit must be paid. No fee is required for ECTS credits and micro-degrees earned in TLU degree programs.
The fee is calculated based on the TLU degree course for which RPL is applied. If free elective courses are applied for, the fee is based on the original credit volume of the performance.
Example: A student wants to transfer the course KAA6005.HR Play and Child Development (4 ECTS), then the fee is 4x12=48 euros.

Applying for external studies or a vacant study place:
Application fee is 60 euros, plus a fee of 12 euros per ECTS credit. The application fee is paid by all candidates, regardless of the RPL categories listed in the application. Additionally, a credit fee is required for RPL of courses not completed at TLU.
Example: A candidate submits a RPL application for external studies totaling 50 ECTS, with 12 ECTS of courses completed at another university. The fee is the application fee of 60 euros plus 12x12=144 euros, totaling 204 euros.

Note: Individuals who have completed the curriculum as external students and are applying to graduate as external graduates do not need to pay the RPL application and credit fees if they have already applied for RPL while completing the same curriculum.

For fulfilling MA and PhD admission requirements:
No RPL assessment fee, if the candidate applies for the assessment of previous studies and/or work experience to meet the admission requirements according to paragraph 23 of the Tallinn University study regulations.
Example: A candidate has a previous education level, but it does not meet the admission requirements for a master's or doctoral program. Therefore, they submit documents proving previous work experience and education and a formal application to the academic unit at least a month before the start of the application period. No fees are applied.

For fulfilling the continuing education curriculum:
Application fee: 60 euros.
